Basic Stages of a Campaign

Basic Stages of a Campaign – Political Mechanics: Episode 5 from Drew Veeneman on Vimeo.

Video Synopsis

There are four major stages to a campaign:

  1. Pre-Primary – This is the preparatory part of the campaign. During this stage, a candidate should raise their visibility and build contacts or an organization.
  2. Primary – This part includes the petition filing process, the ability to persuade the media that you’re a credible candidate, and ultimately garner enough support to win office.
  3. Conventions – These are designed to reaffirm and legitimize the electoral process, to unify primary voters, and to officially introduce candidates to an audience. This is a great outlet for media attention
  4. General Election – This is the when competing parties compete against each other to focus in on voters in an effort to ultimately win the office.
